Synopsis:
According to the author:

Wapsi Square follows the day-to-day stories and relationships between a group of five post-college friends and a school teacher-turned-bartender. Amanda is a motherly professional photographer who is convinced the intelligence of the world is dropping but still remains optimistic. Monica is the diminutive museum curator that has yet to realize how cute she is. Jaquline, Shelly, and Owen are the members of the punk band Fermented Banana and good friends of Monica and Amanda.

Various story lines deal with grade school crushes, blind dates, the perceptions of others, and the Aztec god of alcohol.

As an addendum to my earlier comment, Wapsi has really done a long, slow slide into Crapville in the last few years. It used to be interesting and fun, but now it\'s just a mish-mashed mumbo-jumbo of demons, mythical creatures, vampires \"golems,\" demi-gods, phoenixes and other random bizarre, fantasy-flavored gobbeldygook with no real gel happening to bind anything together.

I mean, it just completely makes zero sense. It\'s not even like that thing that happens to a lot of comics that aspire to layered narrative depth (where the authors wind up lacking the skill to see through the story)...It just literally has no through-line to any sort of ongoing thread. And if the creator THINKS it does, or if it\'s \"all there in his head,\" he\'s made a fiercely bungled hash of it going on for years now. Some comics are like an unraveling shirt, where a solid structure starts to fall apart. Some are like an unfinished knitted scarf, where things start fine, but multiple threads ultimately get tough to keep track of before chaos sets in. This isn\'t like that. It\'s like the thread is sitting at one craft store, the needles at another, and the person who is supposed to put them together is going to culinary school. In a different city.

It wouldn\'t even matter if it was all collected into one compendium...It\'s just plain all over the place, a word-soup blender full of jumbled incomprehensibility.

To be fair, the art remains outstanding, retaining its unique, pin-up style charm. But if you\'re looking for consistency or coherence in story...Look elsewhere. Because this hasn\'t been that for as long as I can remember.

I don\'t quite remember what this comic was about a few years ago, but these days it\'s pretty much a comic about some short chick with an outrageous bust, her hot female friends, who all together have oddball adventures which vary from magical to just weird. Otherwise not a great comic, but decent enough to pass the time considering that it\'s entirely for free.

This strip was alot better in the early days. I've been reading for months (years?) based primarily on the strength of those earlier strips when there was humor in Tepoz, and waiting for this whole aztec clock thing to resolve itself. The series has gotten away from what made it good and I see no hope for it returning to what it was.

In case you can't tell from the other comments, Wapsi Square isn't everyone's cup of tea. If you're the type of comic reader that only likes one or two flavors, it's not for you.

On the other hand, if you like some variety, artwork that is it's own style and not "like so-and-so", and writing that exists primarily to tell you about the characters (who they are, why do they do what they do) give this a try.

Do not read one strip and decide you know what this comic is about based on that. Wapsi Square (like much true art) has to be invested in to appreciate. Read a month's worth, at least, before making a decision as to whether or not to follow it. Don't be afraid to refer to the cast page to get a general idea who that character you never saw before is. (Although, there are three "young" ladies that need to be added.)

Is it funny? I don't know. It is to me. It may or may not be to you. If you find some things in life funny, then the answer is yes. If not, then it's no. Keep in mind: "funny" is only part of what makes this comic great.

Wapsi frustrates me a little...It can't decide if it wants to be funny, a soapy serial, a weird sci-fi/occult thing, or all three. But maybe that's fine. It can be whatever it wants, I guess. The characters are interesting, at the very least, and the way the interact with each other is always unpredictable. The art is also constantly improving. I may not make Wapsi a daily stop, but I do catch up at least once a week.
