The maker of Bob and George, Dave Anez, has kindly answered the questions asked by myself for The Webcomic List. Let's see the results...

1. How does it feel knowing that over 1,000 people read your comic daily?

Dave Anez:
I don't know if the size of the readership has ever really hit me. Sometimes I'll stop and realize that there are now more people reading my comic on a daily basis than there were living in my hometown when I was growing up, but for the most part, I just don't think about it.

2. Is it difficult to make the variations to the sprites? (for the Halloween Comics)

Dave Anez:
I know some people can whip out a custom sprite in a few minutes, but I've honestly never been that good at sprite manipulation. I can do a few tweaks here and there (which I then use over and over and over again), but I don't think that really qualifies me as being a "good spriter".
As far as the Halloween comics go, those sprites might take me an hour or so a piece, but that hour usually ends with me looking at the sprite and thinking, "Good enough."

3. How long (roughly) do you spend making each comic?

Dave Anez:
The amount of time on each comic can vary wildly. If the comic is going to be a simple cut and paste, if I've already got the script, and if I've already got the comic blocked out in my head, it could take as little as five minutes.
Usually, though, I don't have any of those prepared beforehand, and I can end up spending several hours on a single four-panel comic where I try to get it to look just right, with the special effects and the dialogue and the text boxes.
On average, I think can safely say that I spend about half an hour on each comic.

4. Are Bob and George based on anyone you know or are they made up characters for fun?

Dave Anez:
When I first conceived of the characters in junior high, the character of George was very roughly based off of a friend of mine. But that character has gone through so many changes over the years, I doubt there's anything of the original character still in there.
So I took that character and stuck him in Chadling.

5. Out of the Megaman games - which one is your favourite?

Dave Anez:
That's a tough question. Visually, I like Megaman 7 the most (for obvious reasons). But when I think back to when I first played the games, I think I'd have to say my favorite is Megaman 3. The series had really hit its stride and knew what it was doing, but hadn't become too repetitive yet.

6. Do you make some comics in advance?

Dave Anez:
I like to, but I often don't have the chance. Sometimes I'll go for weeks where every night I'll make a single comic for that update. Those are also usually the nights I don't get to bed until way past my bedtime.
What I usually like to do is sit down for an hour or so and punch out two or three comics in a row. I'll have had an idea or a joke in mind, and I can get two or three comics out of it, so I'll get them all done in one sitting. And then I'll try to forget about the comic for the next two or three days when it's time to make more comics.

7. Anything you would like to add?

Dave Anez:
No, I don't think so.

8. Last question, who would win - Zero or Proto Man?

Dave Anez:
Based on sheer firepower, I'd have to go with Zero. But I would say that Proto Man is smarter, cooler, and more experienced, so I think I'd put my money on Proto Man.
Notice that in the Cataclysm movies, I sidestep this issue by never having them fight...

That concludes this interview. Thanks to Dave Anez for taking the time out to give us this interview.
