Lucy Kaiden goes through life the same as anyone else does, one day at a time. Whether this be sewing new clothes, reading books, going to school, or avoiding the wrath of her violent drug abusing parents, she tries to live as a normal thirteen year old girl. However, being born with red hair and matching red eyes has left her far from normal, segregated from her peers, scorned by adults, and friendless. Then one day a boy named Billy Dresden enters her life and her world suffers an upheaval. After gaining something to smile about, she walks with her head held high. It isn’t until someone attempts to remove her smile that she learns she was born with a far greater curse than red eyes.
After a night filled with blood, tears, and party balloons, Lucy’s life forever changes. While the outside world has always been unknown to her, once pulled into it she finds it is more astounding and horrifying that anything she could have imagined.
And discovering she has the power to sever all the veins in a person's body with just a whisper is only the beginning.
