Synopsis:
When Duke Julien II takes his life on the eve of revolution, the city celebrates, sure they are building a better world for their children. Thirty years and three rulers later, a crazed king seems almost preferable to the cold, calculating tyrant that now rules. The young nobles live in gilded cages, hostages at court to keep their families in line. People disappear regularly in the night and no one seems to know what happened to the child kin the ruling regent was meant to protect.
At the forefront of an underground rebellion, Maren finds that while trickery and manipulation come easily to her, living with the consequences is far harder.
